Studio Petunias

Oil on 5x9"canvas. Painted alla prima. Flowers are one of my favorite things in life, painting them does not come easy, I feel intimidated by their delicate luminous beauty, so vibrant and so fragile. I've been putting it off for as long as I've been painting. Terry Oats has been an inspiration, in her work and Georgia O'Keeffe's flower paintings I see an approach that is unique and more about expressing the feeling of a flower which must be profound. I'm going for it in hopes that the love and the fascination will come through in oils ...why else paint?

i think you really did hit it - these guys look alive with cheerful movement and atmosphere - and individuality! i always appreciate it when artists share what's going on for them when they paint - it helps me not feel as intimidated by all the things i've not tried painting yet! thank you!

thank you Dusty Pines, I appreciate your confidence and gratitude. I often feel like that when I look at art, it's never easy but some things just click better than others and painting flowers intimidates me so I have a long road ahead getting through the rough spots. I may never get good at flowers but it's well worth a try.
