Ruth Young and Alive

Oil on 12'x14" panel.
Yes I painted over the last painting(scroll down) because it really wasn't Ruth. As a painter I see how I can easily kid myself and make justifications for what's developing badly.  We artists have great imaginations. I don't like this painting better than the last two renditions but I have to be honest- especially in commission- work it really looks a lot  more like her. I am exhausted from looking and adjusting, but this is the only way to learn. I should have kept the first painting(two scrolls down)and started over, the first one was worth keeping.

Hi Rachel,
I get it. I'm currently working on a fairly large commissioned portrait (30x24-inches) and it's been a similar experience to yours.
Back-and-forth, back-and-forth. Could've stopped a couple of times, but it doesn't matter what I like-it's what THEY like.
I'm okay with it, however, as they are very nice and exceptionally easy to work with. I hope your "boss" is, too.
I haven't posted any images yet as I'm waiting until THEY are happy with it. Anyway, commissions aren't something I seek out, so it'll be back to normal soon.
I really like each of your versions! But, you probably knew that. Great work, Rachel.
Sincerely,
Gary.
