Small, quick and nameless, studies from the fourties

Oil on 4" panel. I have decided it's time to take my portraiture to the next level. Quick studies seem to be the best way for me and studies have shown this is the best way to progress. With larger paintings there's more pressure, I usually get too serious and I make less progress. These little guys can take as little as an hour to complete. I call this new series Nameless Portraits because I'm not trying to get a likeness, instead focusing on structure and using a limited palette to simplify things. Also, the images I'm working from are black and white photos from 1948
